0:12

i mean we might as well consider the episode started then you're recording

0:18

yeah i mean i've got the host pc upstairs recording and i'm downstairs enjoying a tasty

0:25

radiate nice what are you gonna have

0:33

well i'm having a little something that uh

0:38

when the podcast comes out is gonna be in full effect it is the knockout

0:45

by the hot ticket podcast and rodriguez cigars

0:51

happy to say that this weekend i will be at rodriguez cigars key west shooting

0:57

some content for the digital outlets

1:02

and uh just having fun with danny checking out his premises over there um

1:07

i gotta i got a little jealous when uh when dave and the boys got the invite

1:12

last year i'm like wait a second wait a second danny's my boy okay so

1:18

i i get i get the goaler first i mean what's going on um you know so that's what i'm smoking that

1:26

long dissertation was transformed um out of the result of what was ignited for this

1:33

episode and it's the knockout and that's all i'm gonna say you have to go to the website you have to

1:38

go to my cigar pack.com for slash trilogy

1:43

or just check out our instagram and find out about these wonderful cigars that have been made

1:50

for well over a year now

1:57

continues to light cigar

2:04

after i finally stopped talking you're like all right let me go ahead and light my cigar no i i've been lighting for a whole

2:10

minute i just i'm a slow lighter you know slow on that

2:16

that's that's what happens when you use a bic glider shame on you i'm not using a bake i'm using

2:22

a thunderbird in a zippo case that's what that looks like so uh

2:28

they're awesome a thundy yeah you get the zippo experience

2:35

without the stink lovely i don't really mind uh lighting with

2:41

zippos it doesn't bother me at all but it is better to do with butane it's just a pain in the ass to get those

2:47

lighters in this country because you got to bring them in the mail and a lot of us retailers

2:53

who are the ones who sell them they're like wait you don't live in the united states where's your driver's license

2:59

from your state and i'm like joke's on me then on to the next retailer

3:07

and that's how that works but i found one that uh that makes it happen and i'm happy but speaking of smell

3:14

we're gonna touch that topic about smoking indoors and how to deal with the smell

3:20

you smoke in your car a lot don't you it's my favorite it's actually my favorite place you smoke

3:28

i okay i've been smoking and four different cars that i've owned

3:35

in the last 12 plus years yeah want to say

3:41

yeah sounds about right about 12 years i've owned so my fourth vehicle in 12 years

3:49

uh and and i'm only starting with this because one of the last conversations i

3:55

had was i've had issues selling my car after after i've been smoking

4:03

for so many years in it and i'm like listen i have i've sold one two three three

4:09

cars this is my fourth i've sold three cars and future like

4:15

future cars are going to have the same thing but none of the cars gave me an issue with the

4:21

smell like i've never felt other than obviously recently lingering aromas i've never

4:29

had the pungent um you know i've never had the the the

4:35

remaining sense strong sense when i opened the door after one or two days have passed

4:41

obviously because there are there are there are ways to deal with this there are things that you can do

4:47

um and you know i think it always is going to

4:52

come down to the ash and even even

4:57

bottom line is even your ashtray

5:02

when you wipe it off even with the toilet paper or whatever it is uh napkin

5:09

it'll it'll remain um smelly it'll remain with that uh ashy

5:16

old ashy scent because you have to really clean the particles so what i'm trying to get at here is if you

5:22

control ash that is your best friend obviously we're

5:28

going to get into more ways and more techniques i will say a few obviously you'll see a couple but if you make sure

5:34

that you don't have ash you're good that's a good observation there's

5:40

there's ways to deal there's a deal with the ash too uh one of them is

5:47

take ground coffee right and uh used or unused it doesn't matter

5:54

and just lay it on the floor of the ashtray and just dump dump the ash on there it's

6:00

uh it works surprisingly well when you wipe the ashtray you get coffee smell instead of uh

6:06

instead of the ash which is it just works as a coat and it's something that isn't unpleasant and it works just fine

6:14

now ultimately let me go ahead you keep your windows open when you smoke in the car

6:19

i crack a little bit of the window we have outside ventilation is that

6:26

and it doesn't go into your ac well yeah the first thing is yeah that's the first one you got to make sure that

6:32

you have the outside ventilation outside circulation so everything the air is circulating from the outside

6:39

um it's not recirculating with the filter that's one thing i do have to admit that

6:44

i had a little bit of a learning curve i ran through a lot of ac filters from the first two vehicles until i finally

6:51

realized that i wasn't uh i was turning off the the

6:57

internal circulation so i did i did excessively purchase uh ac filters for

7:02

my first two vehicles now i want to make an observation on the

7:07

ashtray thing so i have a little magical product here called ozium ozium is one of the most

7:14

effective air sanitizers i carry it everywhere um obviously i don't travel

7:19

with it but there's like small travel sizes there's large ones like this it's pretty big

7:26

um there's a few flavors or a few

7:34

it's actually funny because you remember the uh was it these uh yellow balls that were

7:39

super sour that you'd suck on um oh yeah jawbreakers sour no no no no

7:45

no lemon heads was it lemon heads i'm not i i know what you're talking about i don't remember the name but they

7:50

were very similar to jawbreakers right they banned us they banned him from our school when we were kids

7:57

yeah i don't know if you remember but well they were yellow ones super sour they

8:02

get extremely sour but it's just like it it's it's a very it's lemon obviously

8:09

but it's a very lemony flavor actually in this country it's more it's lime we

8:14

gotta call it lime um yeah yellow ones yellow ones yeah that's such a fun discrepancy

8:21

yeah um but yeah it tastes it it smells like that taste so if that if you were to put

8:28

a scent to the taste of the lemon heads this is it the original

8:34

um so it's really good it's glycolyzed um i've never really dug into the

8:40

ingredients but it's really effective in purifying the scent

8:45

um i usually spray that wherever there's a

8:51

carpet you know car and i actually have been starting to do it instead of uh spraying

8:57

lysol and my ashtrays after i'm done i immediately spray a little bit of uh

9:02

ozium so it gives it like a nice little citrusy scent and

9:09

i was gonna say it when you mentioned it but what i use is whole beans not

9:15

grounded and i never put anything in the ashtray that when you rest a cigar can

9:22

potentially damage the you know the experience so like let's say you you you sprinkle it with a little bit of um you

9:29

know ground coffee and when the if you lay the cigar and it

9:35

touches the ash tree touches the cigar touches the ashtray and it it's contaminated by the coffee i'm not

9:42

saying it's unpleasant but it's just not real it's going to affect the smoke

9:48

yeah of the purity yeah exactly

9:56

so um yeah let's transition into another one so we've covered

10:01

a few external things we could do the car yeah um so don't drop the ash if you drop the

10:07

ash try to take care of it try to get some some detailing um in your interior

10:12

every now and then if you've dropped the ash if you don't drop the ish like i've never had any issue even even in a

10:17

highway like i've had a lot of driving back home to to the

10:22

beach or whatever i would always be smoking cigars again it's my favorite spot to smoke

10:27

you just grab the cigar as close to the ash as you possibly can put your window roll your window down

10:34

just slowly tap it or just put it out and the ash will fly away so try not to

10:41

have a interior or portable portable ashtray those are

10:46

again ash is not your friend even if it's just for for them while you're smoking the

10:52

cigar it's going to linger on um

10:57

so yeah cracking the window a little bit and you know

11:03

circular turning off the internal air circulation is obviously key

11:09

if you have like felt material on top

11:15

in the details of your car obviously most of uh most vehicles have

11:21

leather or um you know what's what's the other material

11:26

uh well it's just uh plain old yeah plain old mesh materials

11:31

uh yeah yes those are but those are easily those are more

11:38

feasibly cleanable let's let's call it that you can vacuum those you can't vacuum leather seats so let the seats

11:44

repel more but those that have any like a meshy um material can be

11:52

uh vacuumed so that's that solves that issue right there

11:57

uh you smoke in your bedroom a bunch dude i've seen that i never realized it was in your actual bedroom that's what

12:04

they call you the madman let us tell us how you ventilate you know the air in your room

12:11

there's a method to the madness uh it's kind of wild it takes a little bit of setup

12:16

but what you basically do is uh create a makeshift extractor uh you can't have a

12:23

single window open you have to have airflow an inlet and an outlet

12:28

and that's basically it uh it reduces the smell significantly to do that if you

12:35

just have a window open versus having two windows open if you have that so if your room's only got one

12:41

window don't smoke in your room uh poor smoke right by the window right

12:47

yeah and some smell lingers but it's never uh

12:52

it's never repulsive right it's just like the best of the cigar remains and i've actually been complimented that my

12:58

room smells nice uh wow it smells manly in here i'm like yes it does so

13:05

the method to the madness is make sure you have an inlet and an

13:11

outlet to your room and if if you don't have the airflow like the natural airflow like or

13:18

like there's not enough breeze coming on get a fan and draw the air out of one window

13:26

that's gonna have basically it's gonna have your room suck in air from the other window

13:31

so you can stimulate it don't have don't don't you can make the fan bring air in but

13:38

that doesn't help blowing the smoke out so what you want is have the fan as the outlet and if you really want to go

13:45

crazy you have two fans but if you're really serious about it just get an extractor installed

13:52

if you're close to the window if you have if you only have one window and you're close to the window and your

13:57

fan's powerful enough um that you can put it far away enough so that it doesn't

14:04

circulate the air of you know the the residual smoke around you and it could just like

14:10

grab some remaining air from the other side of the room let's call it that it which is actually true it's

14:17

going to obviously it's going to be contaminated throughout time um gradually contaminated that works

14:24

i've i've done it before i've i've stood close to a window i have a

14:30

powerful fan point towards me but all the way from all the way across from the room and

14:36

i've noticed a difference when i have the fan close to me because it's immediately picking up that residual

14:42

smoke that i'm puffing out and that is not leaving the room so if you want to do that with one window you gotta you

14:48

gotta take it you gotta take it the fan and put it on the other way the room or at least have some space

14:54

um but again picking up on the car element and the the car uh component smoke in

15:01

the car and also residual um or lingering scent

15:09

let's call it that i try to make an aroma trying to make it the more uh let's call it favorable yeah let's call

15:15

it so whole

15:20

uh coffee beans are extremely helpful to neutralize

15:27

and to absorb they're ridiculously absorbent so

15:33

every now and then when i do smoke a cigar and i know that

15:38

somebody's going to get in the car that may not you know may not uh enjoy it or

15:44

but maybe a little impulse by it because there is you know there is a difference between the cigar being lit at the moment and

15:50

the residual smoke that the residual scent that lingers on for a day or two

15:56

i will bring a small cup with whole coffee beans and within a day or two

16:02

it'll absorb so much uh coffee beans will essentially dry up

16:08

and um expel their aroma a little bit so it kind of neutralizes i've actually

16:14

done that with cigars quite a while quite quite a few times since a while back

16:21

every now and then you'll get a little excess humidity in the shipment

16:26

and the the scent that that will uh

16:32

yield on the cigar however unpleasant that may sound is very

16:39

minority one thing is one thing is literally smelling it from

16:45

the foot or that that kind of like mild manure uh scent you get or

16:52

note you get when you light the cigar it's actually quite enjoyable a lot of people don't understand that but there

16:57

is a very uh there's an extreme kind of minori scent that you get in certain shipments

17:05

there are certain cigars that come in that have a little bit of an excess humidity within the packaging so it's

17:12

not the cigar itself it's the cigar the collective humidity of the cigars and

17:17

then wrapped over with plastic or with whatever it is um that humidity is retained in the

17:24

plastic not necessarily in the cigar and that creates that that particular unpleasant smell and it just sticks to

17:31

the cigar so what i do is i you mean like musty manure right

17:36

it's yeah exactly it's like a musty menorah it's like uh it's you it was a great wording you

17:42

selected it was like i was thinking of like a rotten manure kind of more like a it's like it's not like

17:49

it's not the the somewhat refreshing manure in a cow pasture that makes you feel like you're

17:55

a friend it's it's a manure that's in a basement or something

18:02

yeah exactly a basement that has been slowly you know dripping water in and that's

18:07

been combining that and the the humidity well whatever it is i i want to get over

18:13

describing it and letting you know that what i do is i um

18:18

i essentially bring these cigars out i separate them from the rest and i quarantine them i put them in the in a

18:25

large really large ziploc bag and i dropped coffee in there and i

18:30

monitor it it usually takes anywhere from two to three days sometimes it

18:35

needs more sometimes i need to freshen up the coffee but it works it's so effective it neutralizes that scent so

18:43

if it works like that it's worked in the car i invite you to try it in many different

18:49

places so just grab a cup fill it up with whatever it is it could be half an ounce one ounce uh i think

18:56

usually half an ounce does the trick if it's if it's really pungent just do one ounce

19:02

and just leave the coffee sitting there for a day or two and it'll it'll help so much

19:08

all right but i'm going to die fast i don't want to wait for my cigars to be ready to smoke

19:14

if i really want to smoke i should and we've got that problem i guess the real answer is how to not get the

19:20

smell indoors in the car in the house in the apartment wherever it's just smoke outside

19:27

it's it's not that bad of an idea sure if it's freezing out

19:32

i guess i i've only smoked in the cold once and it was no fun i get it it's

19:37

it's not a fun dude it's really no fun we're here to bring solutions so we can't go back to to say just smoke

19:44

outside because you can't i mean there are some solutions smoking outside you gotta look up

19:49

a high ticket podcast corey built an amazing tempo

19:56

hold that look at that that's perfect guys for those of you if

20:01

you're listening to the podcast especially if you're watching you're probably already a cigar not like we are but when you drop an ash

20:09

and you see this like a little peak in the middle it's one of the most satisfying

20:15

it's one of the most satisfying signs of a well-crafted smoke just men

20:21

the grady that's why they call it the grady eight it's great for 88 baby

20:28

i interrupted you for a very good reason yep you're saying that that was a that was a really good

20:34

interruption i was saying that temporary fortress was like the small tent square tent that

20:42

shirt for his winter was very tough ohio winter um which allowed it allowed him to smoke

20:48

indoors it it it held off uh the cold pretty well he put a little bit

20:54

i think for a little bit he put like uh i don't know there was a warming device

21:00

that he had in there i don't know what kind of heater it was but that within a contained space

21:08

um allowed him to smoke so that's great that's another solution if somebody wants to think about that in the fall

21:13

but we're thinking about solutions about smoking doors smoking um in your car

21:18

and definitely circulation is key we've talked about circulation in various aspects um

21:27

how you control the different sense obviously if you [Music] so one of the worst things that you

21:34

could do is think that any odorant any

21:39

perfume any type of you know airwick or whatever

21:44

it's going to beat the smell of the cigar it'll only punch you in the face because that is

21:51

the worst combination or potentially the worst combination personally when i get the combination of trying to get rid of

21:58

the smoke of trying to get rid of the scent immediately by uh turning on one of these air wicks or

22:04

these air fresheners that you put on the on the uh air vents ac vents

22:09

it's horrible it is just horrible because it's like they're soaking up smoke

22:15

correction and it's in what it's doing it's putting out um

22:21

the combination of whatever it is whatever flour exotic pine nut it is

22:26

um it's it's it's just so bad so don't go that route there are certain odorizers

22:34

just like i just mentioned ozium is fantastic because it's very neutralizing it's got components glycolyzed it is

22:40

done uh it is designed to um cure these

22:46

uh these issues that we have brought up these have been these pro products have been designed specifically for this

22:54

and i'm sure there's a few other ones i knew i know that a while back i want to say six seven years ago i don't remember

23:00

well there was a trade show uh that i went there was a fantastic product that everybody was raving at the

23:06

time um if you guys ever find out what it is just uh write it in the comments below

23:12

but there are certain products that are designed for indoor smoking so

23:17

uh i guess there's an app

23:34

yeah you were good at when you said park your car or crack the window a little bit but not like crack it break it crack

23:40

it like roll it down i'm hilarious god that was a bad joke yeah just just just

23:46

just roll it down just ever so slightly and let it circulate again circulation

23:52

circulation is key yeah and you don't want to poison yourself like don't hotbox a cigar in your car

23:58

that's a very bad idea uh it really is look at my look at my ash right

24:04

i'm gonna drop it so this is what i do just roll the window down grab it as close to the ash as possible because i don't want

24:12

the wrapper cracking right i don't want the wind just taking over my cigar and cracking the wrapper because it's a delicate thing right so this is what i

24:18

do bam it's good to go the wind takes care of the rest

24:24

kissed by the wind right

24:30

there's also uh i'm not in a car so i get to talk about this one now candles

24:35

the right candle that goes well with a cigar like wood-based candles think about those

24:42

uh like yes oak sandalwood sandalwood yes that's a great one those

24:48

really mask they blend well with the residual scent of the cigar and they mask it in a

24:56

way uh because they're more powerful than it but if you if you have a fruity candle or a

25:02

a very herbal candle some herbal candles will work it's trial and error

25:08

trial and error but the right candles usually wooden wood-based candles like

25:13

wood scent candles they work marvelously i usually light one the day after

25:19

smoking uh in my room i usually don't smoke in the room but when i'm shooting podcast

25:24

episodes and when we're doing stuff that's where i do it because that's where my pc is which another tip is

25:31

watch things that suck in the smoke when you smoke so my pc it's got a lot

25:38

of fans in it and it is gonna suck suck up that smoke so i have some filters on and uh

25:44

i just wipe them once i'm done and that usually works so your computers have filters for dust usually except

25:51

laptops and just clean up clean it up like blow out

25:57

the fans and make sure that that tar buildup doesn't get a chance to

26:02

stay there because not only does it keep the smell but it also

26:08

it can damage your computer down the road keep that in mind if you've got apple computers just take compressed air and

26:15

blow it into the into the fan ports because i know you can't disassemble those because you know tim cook doesn't

26:20

love us uh but uh you just make sure you blow out that

26:26

uh the dust that collected that tar from your pc it's not really gonna matter too

26:32

much on the fan itself if it's clean from dust but you know it does gets everywhere

26:38

uh it's gonna be there yep this does now

26:44

i think i think we've touched that topic pretty deeply and i'd like to move on to

26:50

another one and uh i guess we can be a little a little quicker about it but

26:56

it was a really good question that i that we both caught on the instagram i got a question for you like before

27:03

sure what's the time on the podcast i don't know

27:11

you have no idea i i wasn't tracking it actually because i'm shooting on my

27:16

phone right now and i usually track with my phone and i think i think this next topic that

27:23

we're gonna talk about is a great solo episode

27:28

i think so too so we're just gonna touch it lightly we're gonna touch it lightly this time

27:35

nah i think we should we should just cut this episode and just make it about

27:42

you know controlling the odor and just starting a new one what do you think about that all right teasing the people

27:48

i see i i just it's a very hot

27:53

topic right now i guess uh i'm not it really isn't it's been

27:59

it's been overblown it's been overblown

28:05

it really isn't a hot topic it's something we live every day because we smoke these cigars

28:11

every day well every day we smoke cigars i guess you could say yeah we do

28:17

so yeah let's leave it for the next one i think i think that that's a good tease oh yeah so if you want to know what

28:24

we're talking about just subscribe catch us on the next episode usually oh week they're usually a week

28:30

apart uh if they're not it's because we're working on awesome stuff that you also get to enjoy so

28:37

you're not missing out on anything either way agreed so

28:43

treat yourself indulge yourself i'm being one of those marketing [ __ ] now click that subscribe button

28:49

show yourself some love and uh can you get one of those like one of

28:54

those gifs that the png gifs that pops up with the subscribe

29:00

like ring the bell yeah share it to your family i can tell the people to subscribe like

29:06

the video sent to their mamas but here's a fun fact you said jiff

29:13

i said gif no you said shift i just wanted to spark up a debate

29:19

i said yes skip it's good because it's gift but you said jiff

29:26

well let me ask you a question miguel do you have a girlfriend or do you have a girlfriend

29:32

girlfriend do you give people gifts on christmas we're we're agreeing but you said jiff

29:39

i'm messing with you no you made a mistake and you're and you're masking it as as i didn't make a

29:46

mistake we've had this conversation before a million times i say gif i say gif

29:55

give me a break give me a break give me a break [Laughter]

30:02

ah that's good all right let's wrap it up yeah uh you got you got some bow tie

30:10

or some some thread or anything to wrap it [Music]

30:16
